The group is always on the lookout for dynamic, motivated individuals who wish to work on the mechanical properties of crystalline hybrid materials, or want to explore the crossover between porous hybrids and the non-crystalline domain.

Particularly, we are always happy to discuss offering support for applications for scholarships and fellowships. Please see the list below for some examples.

Available PhD Studentships

There are no currently advertised PhD studentship positions. Students interested in applying for one of the competitive funding options listed below should send a CV and cover letter to Tom.

Domestic and international students may apply for funded PhD studentships in December each year in a highly competitive University-wide program.. The link above can be used to search for the various scholarships for which you are eligible.

  • China Scholarship Council

This is a scheme for Chinese Nationals, and will fully fund a PhD in the University of Cambridge (Tuition, Travel and Stipend).

This scheme closes in July each year, and allows a student from a Commonwealth country to pursue a PhD in the UK.

PhD scholarships are available from a selection of countries (see link above). The deadline is in July each year.

  • College Research Fellowships (3-5 Years)

This is an excellent scheme from the Royal Society, with the next round opening in January 2021.

Academic Visitors / Visiting Students

The Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy has a policy of limiting academic visitors to the group. This means (outside of 24 month visiting academics) we are currently unable to accept visitors of more than 2 weeks in duration. This includes PhD students unfortunately.

Part III MSci Projects

The group offers around 2 projects each year, details on which can be found through the department website. Interested students are encouraged to contact Tom to discuss the projects.
